Ignazio Messina & Co. S.p.A.: This group has shipping as its core business.
The Company was established in 1921 and currently has a corporate turnover in excess of 300 million Euro.
It employs more than 1,000 people, has a fleet of 15 vessels, owns over 60.000 containers of various
types and also owns a port terminal (Nino Ronco) inside the port of Genova, which handles in excess
of 300.000 containers per year.
The Company’s Head Office is located in Genova with branches in Naples, Leghorn, Modena, Marseilles,
Paris, Barcelona, Valencia and London, in addition to the 5 companies it controls in Africa.
These are the brief business details relating to the first Italian owner of roro/portacontainers vessels.
The shipping lines of the Company cover West Africa, East Africa, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Red Sea,
Persian Gulf, India, Pakistan, Lebanon, Egypt, Algeria, Libya, Malta, and Tunisia.
- EGIDA S.r.l. is a limited company, incorporated under Italian law, with its registered office at via
Bartolomeo Bosco 57, Genova, Italy.
Egida S.r.l. is a fully owned subsidiary of the Castel s.a Group. This Group is active, through its
(directly or indirectly) fully - owned subsidiary companies, in the following sectors:
- Steel (Trametal spa , Spartan UK Ltd, Mag Steel s.a ),
- Technology (Ansaldo Superconduttori spa),
- Engineering (Tectubi spa , Omba Impianti &Engineering spa, Sima Spa)
Castel s.a. also holds a 49% stake in Baosteel Distribution Center spa, an incorporated joint venture
with the Peoples Republic of China steel company Shangai BaoSteel Group and a minority stake in
Italian companies engaged in the R&D of superconducting wires and the manufacturing of medical
apparatuses using Ansaldo Superconduttori’s technology.
The consolidated turnover of the Company for the fiscal year 2004 was K Euro 330.048
- SEA- Segnaletica Stradale S.p.A. is the Italian leader in the field of road traffic signs. SEA belongs
to Gruppo GAVIO that comprises several companies in the following fields:
- Motorways (business turnover in excess of 600 million Euro)
- Construction (business turnover in excess of 400 million Euro),
- Logistics and Transportation (business turnover in excess of 100 million Euro)
- Power (Gruppo Gavio through its motorway operating subsidiaries, holds a stake in Società Compagnia
Italiana Energia S.p.A)
- Engineering and Project Management (Gruppo Gavio has its own specialist technical organisations –
SINA, SINECO and CIV)
- Telecommunications (Gruppo Gavio’s telecommunications business activity is represented by ASTM

- OMNIA S.p.A., established in 1992, has a vastly experienced Board of Directors - especially its Chairman –
highly skilled in managing primary state companies. In particular Omnia operates in the fields of new
business development, industrial recovery and development, land / property, urban, environmental and
architectural design. In addition Omnia has recently become involved in tourist development, especially
dealing with the construction of “touristic harbours”.
Omnia also owes a group of companies dealing with the production of special vehicles such as commercial
fleets, armoured and sanitary vehicles.
